• Functionalist perspective- gender inequalities exist to create an efficient division of labor
• Unconscious bias
• Conflict perspective- struggle for dominance among social groups (men and women), so men attempt to maintain their power and privalege to the detriment of women

Personal Experience with Gender Discrimination

"They've [the men she worked with] been at our consulting firm for many years, and randomly began reminiscing about old projects. They started laughing and referencing inside jokes that I didn't understand[...]Curious, I asked, "What's so funny?" In between laughs, one of them uttered, "Oh, we can't share this in mixed company."

* Translation: "We can't tell you because you're a woman."
